Those who favor Drill-Baby-Drill, the selfish who must have their Hummers & such, the complacent who can't be bothered to reduce-reuse-recycle or make even minor changes in their lifestyle. Please don't misconstrue that I am supporting or apologizing for Obama. I'm not. However, saying that people speaking their conscience, trying to convince people that our over consumptive lifestyles MUST change now (starting at least 40 years ago) are to blame is ridiculous. I can only hope that more people will listen and take action, even if it's a small personal action - whether it's starting a small garden or trading in their gas guzzling truck/car. Denying our part in climate change, believing that everything is going to be okay or can be fixed is akin to believing that The Big Guy in the sky is going to whisk away the True Believers to a utopian heaven. I'm just tired of the Heroes vs. Villains crap that is our political discourse. We're all on the same d**n boat and it's sinking. Everyone needs to grab a bucket and start bailing, otherwise we're all going to die.Connie, Orlandohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03352603326494248659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332274376330278254.post-2443059751796863172010-06-06T08:36:02.867-04:002010-06-06T08:36:02.867-04:00There are many things not to like about Palin'...There are many things not to like about Palin's politics. But.... again, I repeat.... the catastrophe in the Gulf is not one of them.

If anyone thinks we will not be using oil to power our lives in the forseeable future... they are an "extreme greenie." I'm sorry. But that's the case.

No form of energy harvest is "safe." Wind turbines kill birds, for instance. Burning corn wreaks havoc on our food supply, and also pollutes. Nuclear... well, let's try NOT to go there. Shall we?

The disempowerment of the Left in this matter is not Palin's fault. Focusing rage upon her only muddies the issue...

We who want to see our Our Mother cared for and respected have been disempowered by our own hand. We *S*elected Obama as our King. We've supported "conservation organizations" who have partnered with Big Oil. Many have stood silent as our Gulf of Mexico gasps for life. To protect .... who? The "Holy Man" of a party that has turned against us.

Now we fall upon our own sword.Stray Yellar Dawg?https://www.blogger.com/profile/04861846247063603370noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332274376330278254.post-26022134664208850922010-06-06T08:15:21.293-04:002010-06-06T08:15:21.293-04:00Have you seen Mrs. Palin's recent Tweet and Fa...Have you seen Mrs. Palin's recent Tweet and Facebook entry directed at "Extreme Greenies" (her phrase)? I think that's what has enraged many. http://www.facebook.com/notes/sarah-palin/extreme-enviros-drill-baby-drill-in-anwr-now-do-you-get-it/395324638434 & a commentary on treehugger.com: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/06/sarah-palin-twitter-drill-baby-drill-bp-oil-spill-alaska-anwr.php

What raised my blood pressure is her reference to ANWR as "uninhabited." It isn't uninhabited, there are a myriad of indigenous species living there. This human-centric world view by most folks makes me want to scream. It's estimated that we are losing species to extinction at a rate of 3 per hour: http://news.softpedia.com/news/The-Rate-of-Extinction-3-Species-per-Hour-55411.shtml Here's a link describing ANWR, and it isn't uninhabited by people - but those there aren't "white" people, they are native peoples: http://alaskatrekker.com/anwr.htm

I'm enraged by misogynistic attacks on Palin, just as I was when they were directed at Hillary Clinton during the primaries. However, I don't like politicians who twist the truth and/or try to incite to riot their listeners/supporters. Although I've also left the Democratic Party, due to Hillary's treatment at the hands of the DNC, I do not support Republican politics nor Palin's position on issues that I care about.Connie, Orlandohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03352603326494248659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332274376330278254.post-77204936642520460372010-06-05T20:48:36.615-04:002010-06-05T20:48:36.615-04:00Connie,
Of course we need to conserve. And to see...Connie,

Of course we need to conserve. And to seek out other sources of energy. And it's a darned shame that we have been led astray by our supposed "allies" who have "partnered" with Big Oil. Obama, The Nature Conservancy... and others... have sold us down the river in this matter.

BUT... the fact also remains that we WILL continue to use some oil. And, that being the case... some forms of excavation are "safer" than others. Not 100% safe, mind you. Just "safer." And this fantasy that... if we push drilling farther and farther off shore, we are not going to pay the price... well, it's just that: a fantasy.

None of what you or I have said here, tho, changes the fact that Sarah Palin is not the "villian" in this situation. And to make her the focus of anger / rage is pointless.Stray Yellar Dawg?https://www.blogger.com/profile/04861846247063603370noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5332274376330278254.post-74341859560953829832010-06-05T18:57:35.116-04:002010-06-05T18:57:35.116-04:00There are "accidents" on both land and o...There are "accidents" on both land and offshore rigs. Many more than we ever hear about. We need higher mileage standards, we need to conserve and we alternative energy sources. We could be there now if people had listened during the oil embargo or on the first Earth Day. But people are selfish and think Mother Nature can recover from all of the damage we've done and continue to do.

See what Big Oil has done elsewhere: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/may/30/oil-spills-nigeria-niger-delta-shellConnie, Orlandohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03352603326494248659noreply@blogger.com
