"Just Tell Them...

I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

Openly Gay Republican To Run For Massachusetts Lt. Governor

The Boston Globe reports that Richard Tisei will run alongside Gubernatorial Candidate, Charlie Baker.

This race will interest me because, in the wake of the DNC's Oba-fiasco, there is a lot about Conservatism that is beginning to appeal to me. But.... as I shared at Cynthia Yockey's blog this morning....

Ya know. This (sanctity of marriage) is the one sticky wicket that keeps me from joining the Conservative movement. Oh, there are other things I don’t completely agree about. Like the “Right to Life” fanaticism. But, at least I *understand* how an intelligent person may want to extend Constitutional rights to a fertilized ovum. There is moral consistancy to the argument… whether I agree with it or not. KWIM?

But this whole thing about denying Constitutional rights to gay people is baffling. It does not really fit within a Conservative mindset. It’s a glaring inconsistancy that will need to be rectified before I can really jump on board…

  1. I hear ya :) There's fanatics on both sides (...cough...DU....cough), so much more pleasant in the middle. Is there such thing as a conservative Democrat? Guess that's where I am now, a Blue Dog? Radical Centrist?

Maybe the fundies will "Cure" him.

Denise, you must discard that sensible logic immediately.

  3. Stray, Happy Thanksgiving to you also. There is a difference between being politically conservative and socially conservative. I don't think the two are necessarily the same thing. I 'm sticking with moderate Libertarian for my id...registered as Independent and I like it that way.

  4. Stray, thought you might be interested in this article over at HotAir written by an AA woman who was a Hillary supporter, then Obama, then became more conservative, and is now a Palinista.
