Liberal religious leaders have filed an amicus brief stating that Proposition 8 in CA is an infringement on their religious liberty.
"Surely, Unitarian Universalists, members of the United Church of Christ and the Metropolitan Community Churches, Reform Jews, Reconstructionist Jews, and others whose faith traditions bless marital unions without regard to the contracting parties’ race or sex, are entitled to the same religious liberty as the Catholics. Proposition 8 deprives them of that liberty."
It is about time! That is all I can say!!

Indeed.
ReplyDeleteReligions vary greatly in regards to beliefs about when a human being is a human being. Not a few say "at birth." (Some even say later.) It seems that one could argue that calling a fertilized ovum a human being is a violation of adherents rights? And that would not be off base.
If the fetus is not yet a person, then, the rights of the mother would certainly hold sway... for followers of those religious paths.
How long til someone files THAT amicus?
