"But imagine if Palestinians stopped the rock-throwing and put female pacifists in the lead. What if 1,000 women sat down peacefully on a road to block access to an illegal Jewish settlement built on Palestinian farmland? What if the women allowed themselves to be tear-gassed, beaten and arrested without a single rock being thrown? Those images would be on televisions around the world — particularly if hundreds more women marched in to replace those hauled away."
Yes. Just IMAGINE!
"Just Tell Them...
I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

That would practically be a miracle. I hope it's true. It's heart warming just to think about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, how wonderful! The idea of all those women being brutalized and tortured is just so heartwarming and fabulous! and I'm SURE their husbands will take care of their kids while they pour into the mouth of the cannonfire like locusts!
ReplyDeleteAfter all, we all know how the world abhors images of violence and brutality toward women SO MUCH that things are BOUND to improve once WE start getting kicked around!
Oh. Um ... Whoops, sorry.
I think it would be a powerful statement. But... not quite likely to happen.
ReplyDeleteThrowing stones and tear gas at visitors isn't helping the Palestinian cause, tho... so who knows?
I think it would be garbage, and if Kristof loves it so much, let him get his ass over there and sniff up some tear gas and catch a rock in the face and then he'll have room to talk. Until then, I have no respect for someone who tells other people to go get the shit knocked out of them for the good of all.
ReplyDelete"Tonto, go to town."
Kiss my ass, kemo sabe.
Actually, Kristof was just over there. He was gassed, and had rocks thrown at him. Because he is Jewish.
ReplyDeleteThe point is... that if peaceful protest would take hold there, rather that the gassing and rock throwing... world opinion would change.
But I won't hold my breath waiting for Palestinians to "get it." Hell, they may not even allow women to drive cars.
Do they? Anybody know??
This is the documentary that Nick Kristof refers to in his op ed:

I hope to see it soon!

ReplyDeleteFair play to him, then. At least he walks the walk.
