Like Femisex, SYD simply cannot abide the Politics of sucking up to Religious Fundies.
Of any stripe.
Which means, essentially, that I have nowhere to go in the upcoming election.
This weekend, so far, I have been visited by the Democratic party (at my door) twice. They are polling to see if we plan to vote.
DH tells them he's not voting at all. And I tell them "only for women."
Needless to say.... it didn't go over well. Wonder if they'll be back today???
"Just Tell Them...
I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

My attitude -- aside from the overarching "only vote for women" one which we share -- is that I reward leftward movement.
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem. Where you stand isn't nearly as important as in what direction you are moving. The Democrats lurched to the right hugely in 2008, whereas the Republicans are becoming more moderate. They have no choice; they are being stormed by disaffected Democrats. :-)
More and more Republicans are moderating on choice and same-sex issues. They are sliding to the left. Reward that. Democrats are slid horribly to the right. Punish them for it. Seriously -- we can't use the same script we've used as social liberals for most of our lives, neither of us. I'm one as well, and I grew up with the fundamental assumption that The Right-Wing Was All Fundie Ratfuckers. Up until 2008, they were for the most part. But they are falling away from that position rapidly. Reward that movement.
We can no longer use the "Democrat = good for women and minorities, cares about the environment, is for labor unions" and "Republican = crazy fundie witchburner who trashes the planet and hates gay people and empowered women" mental shorthand. Things have shifted enormously, and they are still shifting.
Reward leftward movement. Again, don't worry about where the parties stand -- worry about what direction they are moving. Reward leftward movement -- and right now, that's Republicans.
If you have to choose between a Dem and Repub women, I mean. Other than that, vote for the chick. :-)
Bravo for ya'll!!!!!!!!
