"Just Tell Them...

I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

VOTE! For Pet Rescue of the Year!!

SYD is kinda staying away from political blogging at the moment. Except... to ask her friends here to VOTE!! For Three Sisters Pet Rescue, that is. They are one of several "mixed breed rescues" trying to win a $500 gift package from Happy Tails.

HERE IS THE BALLOT and it's a very simple process!

Three Sisters are running a close second to "Dogs Deserve Better" at the moment. And us kitties are feeling kinda left out.

Pet Rescue is Political

I think that's a big part of why I do it.

Professional rescuers like myself, have a passion for seeing the marginalized vindicated. And you can't get more marginalized than you'd be if you were innocently awaiting your death in a dirty prison cell. Or tied to a pole in someone's back yard an forgotten.

The macro-politics of pet rescue are more complex. They deal with the responsibility of human beings, as a species. To care for another species that we have deliberately bred, re-bred, and inbred to suit our needs and fancies. Those that end up in pounds and shelters are the discards of this human experiment.... where only the tiniest, the gargantuan, and the unique looking breeds matter.

And, if those two kinds of politics are not enough .... there is also a set of micro-political mores that must be considered when working within the rescue community. A set of do's and do-nots we abide by when determining rescues and placements. Jeesh. Who knew? I mean... rescuing dogs and cats should be simple. Right?
