"Just Tell Them...

I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

Conservative Snobs Are Wrong About Sarah Palin. She is Actually Quite "Thatcherean."

So A FRIEND OF MAGGIE THATCHER'S tells us.

And I quote:

"(Sarah) has plenty of time, probably eight years, to analyze America's problems, recruit her own expert advice, and develop conservative solutions to them. She has obvious intelligence, drive, serious moral character, and a Reaganesque likability. Her likely Republican rivals such as Bobby Jindal and Mitt Romney, not to mention Barack Obama, have most of these same qualities too. But she shares with Mrs. Thatcher a very rare charisma. As Ronnie Millar, the latter's speechwriter and a successful playwright, used to say in theatrical tones: She may be depressed, ill-dressed and having a bad hair day, but when the curtain rises, out onto the stage she steps looking like a billion dollars. That's the mark of a star, dear boy. They rise to the big occasions.

Mrs. Palin had four big occasions in the late, doomed Republican campaign: her introduction by John McCain in Ohio, her speech at the GOP convention, her vice-presidential debate with Sen. Joe Biden, and her appearance on Saturday Night Live. With minimal preparation, she rose to all four of them. That's the mark of star.

If conservative intellectuals, Republican operatives and McCain "handlers" can't see it, then so much the worse for them."

And, yes, I agree with the eight years comment. I really don't want them to run Sarah for president until she is guaranteed a win. And... after eight years of Obama's Chicago flim-flammery ... the nation will be poised to elect a straight talking Alaskan. Sarah will still be quite young, too!

PS. I saw Sarah at one of the occasions mentioned in this article. It was her introduction in Ohio. And BOY DID SHE rise to that occasion. Just sayin'.

It would make my day if she would come out against that 'Conscience Clause' order that has come down from BUSHCO... Really, it would make a huge difference to me. I just can't support anyone who goes that route. Which means I may have to become a stay at home voter sometime in the future. It is the ultimate "hands off" stance in my book.

In the meantime...if you love dogs, you might want to amble over...

  2. I personally think that the "Conscience Clause" is no more than creation of an unnecessary wedge issue. If it is passed, it will be quickly dealt with... becasue no healthcare industry can afford to hire folks who won't follow it's job descriptions.

Already we have hospitals that refuse to do abortions. That is nothing now. (Catholic for instance.) Folks with "Conscience Clause" issues can work for them.

So... if Sarah is smart she will keep her mouth shut on this one.... as nothing she says can aid or detract from the issue.

Will definitley hop over and visit the story about Karley!

The attitude of those snobs is what tipped me to the fact that this was not exclusively about misogyny, but also very much a class thing. Look at the pass that Caroline Kennedy is getting from the same people. And David Brooks never noticed W's anti-intellectualism, but called Palin's a 'cancer on the GOP"?
