"Just Tell Them...

I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

Sarah Palin's Winning Pick (I'm waiting for the apologies, sisters...)

I woke up to the news this morning, that Sarah Palin may have actually named, to the Alaska high court a .... ***get this..... better sit down now*** ....pro-choice judge!

And she is a woman to boot!

Here's the blurb I'd been waiting for:

"Yesterday, Gov Palin picked Anchorage Superior Court Judge Morgan Christen to become only the second female Supreme Court Judge in the history of the State of Alaska. But Judge Christen isn’t just any woman. She is a pro-choice and was even on the board of Planned Parenthood in the 1990s. The other finalist for the job was a more conservative male."

Now don't get me wrong. I am not pushing pro-choice (or pro-life) judges. I am all for GOOD judges. Qualified ones. You know, the kind that know how to read a constitution, and will uphold the law.

I apologize that it has taken me a while to process this exceedingly good news. It's just that ... gasp.... another female political figure that I have come to know, trust and respect is actually ... really and truly ... qualified to be POTUS!!! Not in a litmus-y testy far right or left sort of way. Not in a pearl sporting, highheel wearing, showhorsey June Cleaver-ish sort of way. Nope. Not at all. Sarah Palin has guts!

Deep inside, I always knew it. But now I have proof.

Oh... and I agree with my friends at The New Agenda: Some supposedly "pro-woman" idealogues out there owe Governor Palin an apology. Big time!

Shall I name names?

  1. You'll never get an apology for all the anti-Palin comments from the *feminists*.
We all learned, thanks to them, that unless you PERSONALLY approve of and support abortion on demand you CANNOT be a feminist, nor can you be good for women, let alone the country.

To all of them I say, STFU. You wouldn't know REAL feminism if it came up and bit you on your ass. GO SARAH!

  2. You'll never get an apology from all of the so-called feminists, who condemn any woman who doesn't march in lockstep with the prochoice agenda. If a woman isn't prochoice she is, by their definition, trying to oppress other women.
Forget facts, SYD, these folks will always hate Sarah. Probably moreso now that she has proven she isn't trying to foist her prolife agenda on the AK courts.

  4. I sent the news from new agenda and your story to several editors of feminist blogs including feminist law professors( who you would think would be interested in a female supreme court nominee) but no one as posted anything....hm

Thanks for this post, Stray Yellar. If I didn't read it here, I don't know if I would have found the story elswehere. (I started reading your posts because of a link in one of your comments some time ago at Heidi Li's blog. It was about the study undertaken by the Girl Scouts.)

  7. Heidi Li's essay id just perfect!

    My response:

When I read this news yesterday, I jumped for joy!

Beyond the glare of the cameras, beyond the accusations of "too hot" and "too dumb" Sarah just did what she needed to do. She selected a most qualified supreme court justice. And, no, it was not about any kind of Right Wing litmus test.

I believe that many supposedly "progressive" idealogues owe this woman an apology. For the way they sold her short when she was John McCain's running mate.

To be frank there are women out there, high profile "Feminists", whom I have heretofore respected ... that I will never forgive for what they did to a competent woman governor.
