"Just Tell Them...
I have worked 40 years to make the Women's Suffrage platform broad enough for Atheists and Agnostics to stand upon, and now if need be I will fight the next 40 to keep it Catholic enough to permit the straightest Orthodox religionist to speak or pray and count her beads upon."

The Limits of Cultural Relativism: Progressivism Jumps the Shark
HERE we see a supposedly "Progressive minded" individual, Geraldo Rivera, arguing for the rights of certain men to imprison and rape their wives, while depriving their daughters of education.
Tell me, has "Progressivism" jumped the shark?
SYD
H/T to "Reclusive Leftist" for calling this one out!
This is awful. I was afraid this was coming...women better get their act together because next thing we will be seeing is sharia law in the US being ok and men killing their wives and daughters and not being prosecuted. This is really really bad news.
Not that Geraldo is particularly an exemplar of progressivism (or of anything other than sensationalism), but there is far too much of this. People excuse Islamic societies for behavior that they would rightly declare intolerable if it were being done by anyone else.
It's striking to me that the people who most courageously denounce this kind of abuse are ex-Muslims -- people like Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Ibn Warraq -- in marked contrast to the timorousness of Wwesterners.
In "real life" Dawg is a mom, a nurse, a pet rescuer and a tireless advocate for animal rights.
Dawg is happily married for thirty years and has raised three awesome children. She holds an advanced degree in Family Science, wherein her research was focused on women's support circles during parturition. Her dedication to Women's Rights is directly affected by her belief that motherhood should not be a sentence to isolation and disenfranchisement.
Dawg is on hiatus from political bloggery d/t the intense demands of her engagement in the No Kill movement at this time. However, she remains influenced by PUMA politics and reads the blogs of her fellow PUMAs (at right) regularly.

ReplyDeleteStarted feeding people to the shark, more like.
