Cultural Meme of the Moment: Perp as Victim (Now It's Da Poor Pope)

As if it wasn't bad enough for the talking heads to equate Tiger Woods with Hawthorne's Hester Prynne, (see previous blog entry.)...

We now get a glimpse of Pope Benedict as victim. The poor man cannot possibly be responsible for anything he did when he was quite literally a Nazi sympathizer. (Or at least someone who took no stance against Hitler's regime.)

Of course, "God's Voice on Earth" could not have committed atrocities against children in his sordid past. Impossible! He must be a victim! Yeah, that's it.... Set up by those looking for an excuse to leave The Church. And those who "hate The Church."

For many Catholics I know, this has been a most painful situation. They don't want to leave The Church. Nor do they hate Her. The Catholic rank and file are NOT the perpetrators here. All they ask is some reasonable attempt at honesty from the supposed successor to St. Peter.

Once again, the patriarchy turns on it's ear in an attempt to place blame on the real victims, as it exonerates the culprits.

How sick.
