I was able to find this off the cuff "transcript" of what I consider to be a total bastardization (is it OK to use that word here?) of the meaning of "The Scarlet Letter." If you want to suffer through the actual Diane Rehm show on the subject... suit yourself.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, himself having been raised by a single mother, must truly be turning in his grave. The NPR talking heads actually believe that Tiger Woods is the new Hester Prynne?? Or at least that is what they want us to believe.
Not Phoebe Prince mind you. Tiger Woods.
Are they effin' kidding me? Tiger Woods is wearing the Scarlet Letter nowadays?? Which letter is that, exactly? The one that says "I'm rich and famous and I can get away with anything??"

ReplyDeleteSo glad someone else picked up on this. I couldn't believe my ears when Tiger was compared to Hester. He's going to get his career back and, no doubt, his sponsors will return because it's all about the money.

When we can no longer tell who is on the receiving end of exploitation and who is doling out the abuse ... then, the doler-outers have truly won.
