The War on White Women: Day Six of the Letterman Saga

It was PUMA For Life that called my attention to THIS quite excellent article by Andrea Peyser at the New York Post:

"While you were watching David Letterman -- a bitter guy who never saw a woman or a Republican he could stand -- trash Sarah Palin's 14-year-old daughter by "joking" that she was date-raped by Alex Rodriguez and stalked by Eliot Spitzer, you may have missed the memo. Dave's in good company.

His struggling brother up the dial, Conan O'Brien, on Thursday night was having a blast slurring women and Jews -- two groups that may constitute the last permissible sick-comedy staples."

Not surprisingly, the left has been notoriously silent on the issue. Where are the marches? The boycotts? The National Organization for Women did elect Letterman into its "Media Hall of Shame." How scary.

Letterman replied that he thought he was joking about the sex life of Palin's 18-year-old daughter, not the 14-year-old!"

"How scary" is right!

If you hop over to Women State you can see where a large part of the problem lies. Apparently, certain "men of color" have determined that white women have never really been targeted the way they have. Therefore, jokes about adult Latino men having public sex with 14 year old white girls are not as bad as, say, jokes about black men eating watermelon.

(Whatever, Al. Never mind that I, and many others like me, have defended your positions over the years. Just as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady-Stanton once defended Frederick Douglass' right to vote. Until he brushed them aside.)

History does, indeed, repeat itself.

On the bright side, though:

PUMA PAC reports on the state of the Letterman apology. It has evolved to be a bit more sincere, in the wake of the "Fire David Letterman" movement. But, there is still work to be done!

And, Tennessee Guerilla Women are reporting that an interesting thing has happened on "The View." Apparently, Ms. Behar was afraid she might get the same boot in the butt as Mr. Letterman. So she is changing her tune a bit.

Finally, a word of encouragement from Murphy at PUMA PAC:

"This is how it’s done. Incident by incident. With constant vigilance by us AND the active participation of our members to make those phone calls and send those letters EVERY DAMN DAY. Sooner or later, it WILL become as unacceptable to make jokes about slutty flight attendants and sexual assault as it is to make “jokes” about watermelon and gorillas."

What about today's protest? Anybody have an updated report?

NYT and Howard Dean on Sarah Palin: Can I Throw Up Now?

Apparently the New York Times is back in Alaska, preparing another hit piece on Sarah Palin. PUMA 4 Life covers it.

"NYT reporter Bill Yardly was in Juneau working on a story about how Sarah has changed as a governor since her VP race. That must be the reason we are hearing all of these ridiculous negative comments coming out of the mouths of Alaskan state legislators; they all must want their 30 seconds of fame, much like what young Levi and his family secured by telling nasty stories about an 18 year old girl and her mother.

There’s even this Republican named Jay Ramras busily making a jackass of himself. I thought it was a big joke when I read that Ramras asked Palin’s nominee for attorney general, Wayne Anthoney Ross, how, as attorney general, he would advise Palin if she gets a lucrative book deal requiring her to leave Alaska for an extended nationwide book tour. He said he wanted a legal opinion from the Department of Law on that."

Look at how Howard Dean is trying to win "Liberal" women back to his sexist pig of a party. Not Your Sweetie covers the sickening sweetness there.

Can I just throw up now? All this bitter and sweet is bad for my digestion.

Who Protects the Palin "Brand?" Inquiring Minds Wanna Know!

This kind of news is exactly the kind I want to see. It tells me that Sarah is a SERIOUS contender for 2012!

The names?

• John Coale: Coale, a well-known Washington lawyer and the husband of Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, drew national media attention when he endorsed Sen. John McCain's presidential bid in protest of the way in which Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who he backed in the primary, was treated. Coale, in an interview with the Fix, described himself simply as a "friend" of the Alaska governor but acknowledged that he suggested she start a leadership PAC and helped her navigate through some of the questions surrounding her family that lingered after the campaign. Others familiar with Palin's political team insist that Coale has far more power than he is letting on -- essentially helping to run Sarah PAC. Coale demurred on that front, noting only that he talks to Palin regularly and that she is a "fascinating person" who is "definitely not what the right thinks or the left thinks."

• Meg Stapleton: Stapleton serves as the Alaska spokeswoman for Sarah PAC after having played a similar role for the governor during the vice presidential campaign and in the governor's office. Stapleton has been the lead defender of Palin from barbs thrown at her -- often from those allied with McCain -- in the aftermath of the 2008 campaign and, generally, wins positive reviews from Washington insiders not directly allied with the governor.

• Pam Pryor: Pryor is the Washington spokesperson for Sarah PAC after serving as a senior adviser to the Republican National Committee during last year's general election campaign. Pryor has previously served in a variety of political jobs in Washington including as press secretary and chief of staff to former Oklahoma Rep. J.C. Watts.

• Becki Donatelli: Donatelli, as we reported a few weeks ago, is officially running Sarah PAC. She is the chairman of Campaign Solutions, a fundraising and Internet strategy firm based in Virginia.
